Senior Software Engineer II – Cloud Banking Platform

About the role

Thought Machine is building a cloud‑native core banking platform and is looking for a Senior Software Engineer II to join its Engineering Hub in Lisbon. In this role you will own complex, ambiguous technical challenges from design through delivery, and influence the long‑term direction of the platform.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement solutions for highly complex problems, leveraging deep knowledge of the codebase and architecture.
• Define and enforce architectural standards that meet security, performance, reliability, scalability and cost requirements.
• Shape engineering practices across the company, driving adoption of new technologies such as AI‑based tools.
• Collaborate with senior leadership, external stakeholders and multiple engineering teams to align technical direction with business goals.
• Mentor and review code to ensure high quality and consistency.

Required profile

• Proven experience delivering large‑scale, cloud‑native software systems.
• Strong ability to navigate ambiguous problems and make independent decisions.
• Excellent communication skills to act as a bridge between technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

Required skills

• Deep understanding of software architecture and design patterns.
• Experience with cloud platforms and modern development tooling.
• Familiarity with AI‑assisted development tools is a plus.
