Senior Java Backend Engineer

About the role

The Mastercard Authentication Program owns how consumer authentication works for both in-store and e-commerce transactional use cases. The primary purpose of this role is to develop and deliver best‑of‑breed authentication products for e‑commerce transactional use cases that will drive uptake and penetration for the products and revenue for Mastercard.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in team prioritization discussions with Product/Business stakeholders.
• Estimate and own delivery tasks (design, development, testing, deployment, configuration, documentation) to meet business requirements.
• Drive code/design/process trade‑off discussions within the team when required.
• Apply best practices to write high‑quality, secure, modular, functional, and testable code.
• Report status and manage risks for the primary application/service.
• Perform demos and acceptance discussions with Product owners.
• Drive adoption of technology standards and review coding, testing, and automation work of team members.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes and trim waste.
• Share and seek knowledge within the Guild/Program to reuse patterns, libraries, and practices.

Required profile

• A degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
• Strong experience with server‑side, backend applications and microservices architectures.
• Strong experience using Java, Spring, and RESTful APIs.
• Strong experience conducting unit, component, integration and functional tests (e.g., JUnit, Mockito, Cucumber).
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Proactive attitude with a willingness to learn new technologies.
• Team player who enjoys sharing knowledge with colleagues.
