Senior Backend Engineer – Node.js & SQL

About the role

Devoteam is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to design, develop and maintain robust, scalable backend applications. You will contribute to architectural decisions, work in an international, agile environment and help drive engineering best practices.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable backend applications using Node.js and ExpressJS.
• Build, optimise and secure RESTful APIs and micro‑services handling high‑throughput workloads.
• Architect efficient relational database models (SQL) and optimise complex queries.
• Take an active role in technical decisions, system architecture and continuous improvement of the engineering lifecycle.
• Participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to ensure alignment with quality standards.
• Troubleshoot, debug and resolve complex production issues to guarantee high availability.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional and international teams to translate requirements into production‑ready solutions.
• Foster a DevOps culture by leveraging Docker for development and deployment pipelines.
• Engage in agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, daily stand‑ups and retrospectives.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional experience in backend software engineering.
• Strong production‑grade experience with Node.js and ExpressJS.
• Extensive hands‑on experience with relational databases (SQL), data modelling and performance tuning.
• Proven expertise in designing, implementing and securing RESTful APIs and service orchestration.
• Practical familiarity with containerisation tools, specifically Docker.
• Proficiency with Git and continuous integration workflows.
• Fluent English communication skills and comfort working in a distributed international team.
• Strong problem‑solving mindset, technical autonomy and commitment to engineering best practices.
