Research Scientist Group Leader - 2D Materials and Devices

About the role

The International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) seeks an internationally recognised research leader to head the 2D Materials & Devices Research Group. The group leader will develop a world‑class programme on scalable device technologies based on two‑dimensional materials, leveraging INL’s MOCVD, CVD, clean‑room and characterisation facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop an internationally competitive research programme in scalable 2D material device technologies with emphasis on ICT.
• Exploit INL’s advanced MOCVD, cleanroom and characterisation core facilities to establish innovative device platforms.
• Design, fabricate and characterise functional electronic, optoelectronic, ionic and sensing devices based on graphene, hBN, TMDs and heterostructures.
• Secure competitive research funding from national, European (ERC) and international programmes.

Required profile

• PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Nanotechnology, Materials Science or a related field.
• Strong post‑doctoral research record in 2D‑materials devices, with evidence of independent scientific leadership and high‑impact publications.

Required skills

• Expertise in large‑scale 2D material synthesis (CVD, MOCVD, LPE) and wafer‑scale growth.
• Proficiency in nanofabrication and device fabrication techniques.
• Experience with structural, optical and transport characterisation of 2D materials and devices.
