Release Engineer

About the role

Air Apps, a family-founded company building an AI-powered Personal & Entrepreneurial Resource Planner, is looking for a Release Engineer. The role ensures that applications are released smoothly, reliably and efficiently, overseeing versioning, build management and deployment workflows so that new features and updates reach users seamlessly. It is a fully onsite position in Lisbon, with relocation support offered.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and optimise release pipelines for smooth deployment of software updates.
• Define and maintain versioning strategies across multiple environments.
• Coordinate with engineering, QA and DevOps teams for timely, stable releases.
• Automate and improve build, release and deployment processes.
• Monitor and troubleshoot release issues to keep downtime minimal.
• Maintain documentation for release workflows, rollback plans and deployment strategies.
• Ensure compliance with security, performance and quality standards.
• Use CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, CircleCI) to manage automated releases.
• Implement feature flagging for controlled rollouts and analyse release performance.

Required profile

• Around 3+ years of experience in release engineering, DevOps or build/release management.
• Experience in an agile environment with fast-paced release cycles.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and knowledge of release risk assessment and rollback strategies.

Required skills

• CI/CD tools: Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, CircleCI, ArgoCD.
• Version control (Git) and branching strategies (GitFlow, trunk-based development).
• Containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Scripting (Bash, Python or PowerShell) and build systems (Xcode, Gradle, Webpack).
