Production Team Leader – Afternoon Shift

About the role

BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is seeking a dynamic Production Team Leader for its new plant in Viana, Portugal. The role operates on the afternoon shift and is responsible for coordinating a production team, ensuring safety, quality, and on‑time delivery while driving continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Assign tasks, set production objectives and monitor team performance.
• Train new operators on safety rules, 5S, equipment handling, assembly and inspection processes.
• Lead certification training for team leaders and operators.
• Respond to production orders in line with smoothing/levelling strategies.
• Facilitate continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, cost, delivery and motivation.
• Conduct daily shift meetings, communicate performance indicators (OEE, throughput, FTT, PPM, scrap, breakdowns, TRIR, incidents).
• Implement production tools such as visual management, JIT, 5S and Kanban.
• Control processes using preventive maintenance, poka‑yoke, startup checklists and LPA.
• Support team members with personal issues, absences and vacations.
• Collect production/engineering data and perform daily audits of control plans.
• Participate in problem‑solving activities (8D, 6M, 5 Whys) and in the development and validation of new processes.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading production teams in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong focus on safety, quality and continuous improvement.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to motivate diverse team members.
• Hands‑on problem‑solving mindset with experience in structured methodologies.
• Ability to manage shift coordination and support operator welfare.
