Mechanical Engineer – Medical Device Design

About the role

We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team in Leça do Balio, Portugal. You will contribute to the design and development of innovative medical device components, supporting Abbott’s strategic plan and ensuring compliance with quality and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Design sub‑assemblies that meet overall design goals and specifications.
• Perform empirical, numerical and experimental analysis to validate designs.
• Develop test methods and models for prototype evaluation.
• Identify and mitigate risks associated with sub‑assemblies.
• Collaborate with internal departments and external vendors to source prototype parts and understand their capabilities.
• Support design reviews and invention disclosures.
• Ensure designs comply with Abbott’s quality requirements, ISO regulations and QMS.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (± 16 years).
• 3‑5 years of experience in mechanical design and testing, preferably in medical devices.
• Familiarity with a variety of manufacturing processes.
• Ability to work within regulatory and quality frameworks.
