Java Software Engineer – Hybrid (Lisbon/Porto)

About the role

We are seeking a Java Software Engineer to join the Global Banking IT division of a leading investment bank. The role involves building a new Middle Office application from scratch to manage client trade limits and exposure. You will work in a hybrid setting, attending the office in Lisbon or Porto twice a week.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain both backend and frontend components of the application.
• Drive the migration of the codebase from Java 8/11 to Java 21.
• Implement new features, troubleshoot, and resolve production incidents.
• Integrate external systems and internal services using micro‑service patterns.
• Collaborate closely with technical and business stakeholders.
• Mentor junior team members and promote knowledge sharing.

Required profile

• 5–8 years of professional software development experience.
• Strong proficiency in Java (versions 8 through 21) and Spring Boot.
• Experience working in Agile environments, preferably Scrum with Jira.
• Ability to work autonomously and solve complex problems.
• Excellent communication skills in English.
• Mentoring mindset and willingness to support less‑experienced colleagues.
