Java Backend Software Engineer

About the role

As a Java Backend Software Engineer you will join a multidisciplinary Agile team at Capgemini Engineering, designing, developing and maintaining scalable high‑performance backend solutions for innovative projects.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend applications using Java 17, Spring Boot and RESTful APIs.
• Design and implement scalable microservices architectures following best practices.
• Integrate and optimise data access with PostgreSQL, MySQL and NoSQL databases.
• Build event‑driven solutions using messaging technologies such as Kafka and RabbitMQ.
• Contribute to cloud‑native applications deployed on AWS, Azure or GCP.
• Collaborate with DevOps teams to support CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
• Ensure software quality, security, scalability and performance across solutions.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and work closely with cross‑functional international teams.

Required profile

• Higher education degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of professional experience developing Java‑based web applications.
• Strong knowledge of microservices, object‑oriented programming, design patterns and security best practices.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, NoSQL databases and messaging solutions such as Kafka and RabbitMQ.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP) and DevOps methodologies.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work across functions and time zones.
• Fluent English is mandatory.
• Experience with Test‑Driven Development (TDD) and Behavior‑Driven Development (BDD).
