Industry 4.0 & IIoT Internship – Manufacturing Digitalization

About the role

Join Bosch's Industry 4.0 team in Aveiro as an extracurricular intern and contribute to the digital transformation of manufacturing processes across the Home Comfort division. You will work on cutting‑edge Industrial IoT (IIoT) projects, develop proof‑of‑concept solutions, and help integrate intelligent systems into factories worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Research and prototype new IIoT technologies such as wearables and digital displays for industrial use.
• Develop proof‑of‑concept projects and define integration standards for IIoT devices.
• Create interfaces between shop‑floor equipment, MES, and IIoT platforms.
• Design and test intelligent manufacturing systems that leverage machine learning.
• Develop automation control systems and interfaces for test equipment and production machines.
• Validate solutions in the Factory of the Future laboratory.

Required profile

• Enrolled in an engineering or computer science program (e.g., Electrical, Mechanical, Computer, Physics).
• Strong curiosity for emerging IIoT and Industry 4.0 technologies.
• Fluent written and spoken English.

Required skills

• Understanding of IIoT protocols such as MQTT, OPC‑UA, Kafka.
• Knowledge of industrial automation concepts, including industrial networks, PLC programming, and SCADA.
• Familiarity with machine learning basics.
• Experience with automation control system design.
