Indirect Tax Specialist

About the role

Colt is seeking an Indirect Tax Specialist to lead Global VAT Compliance across its worldwide operations. The role will act as the subject‑matter expert on indirect tax, providing independent VAT advice and supporting strategic initiatives while ensuring robust governance and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Own and manage relationships with external VAT advisors, providing strategic direction on compliance, risk management and process improvements.
• Deliver and govern indirect tax compliance obligations, ensuring timely and accurate submission of VAT returns and related filings.
• Review, approve and sign‑off VAT returns, reconciliations and compliance deliverables prepared by internal teams and external advisors.
• Lead interactions with tax authorities and coordinate responses to audits, enquiries and investigations.
• Identify, assess and mitigate indirect tax risks, recommending practical solutions that align with business objectives.
• Drive automation and process‑improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, control and governance.
• Establish and maintain robust VAT governance frameworks, controls and documented procedures.
• Interpret legislative developments, determine organisational impact and lead implementation of required changes.
• Provide technical leadership and coaching to finance and tax colleagues, promoting consistent application of VAT policies.

Required profile

• 4‑7 years of experience handling European and UK VAT compliance, including preparation, review, reconciliation and business query support.
• Prior experience in VAT advisory.
• Strong analytical mindset with high accuracy.
• Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
• Ability to work with multicultural European customers and collaborate across functions.
• Proven ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
• Commitment to process execution, standardisation and taking on extra responsibilities.
