General Helper – First Shift

About the role

Smurfit Westrock is seeking a General Helper for the first shift to support machine operators in a corrugated packaging plant. The role focuses on safe, efficient machine setup, operation, and maintenance while helping to meet production targets.

Key responsibilities

• Configure and set up machinery according to standardized procedures.
• Load corrugated sheets into the feed section and unload finished products.
• Operate the machine to produce high‑quality boxes while minimizing material waste.
• Maintain equipment, perform routine cleaning, and submit maintenance work orders.
• Verify product quality throughout the manufacturing process.
• Complete accurate production and reporting documentation.
• Assist in training new helpers and continuously learn new box styles.
• Proactively suggest improvements to schedules, costs, quality, and productivity.

Required profile

• Minimum high school diploma or GED.
• Prior experience in the corrugated cardboard industry is preferred.
• Commitment to safety, quality, cost control, and productivity.
• Ability to follow company policies and uphold integrity, respect, responsibility, and excellence.

Required skills

• Machine operation and basic maintenance.
• Quality inspection of packaged products.
• Basic understanding of production scheduling.
