Functional Learning Facilitator – Playful Learning for Children with Autism

About the role

We are looking for a Functional Learning Facilitator to join our small, warm team at 6 Sentidos in São Pedro do Estoril. The centre blends learning with play to support children with autism, focusing on sensory regulation, communication, thinking and daily life skills.

Key responsibilities

• Co‑create and deliver a child‑led, play‑based curriculum that turns developmental goals into real‑life experiences.
• Support sensory regulation, communication (including AAC), cognitive and daily‑living skills throughout the day.
• Adapt activities in the moment according to each child’s energy, interests and body language.
• Collaborate with the team to design individual plans, weekly schedules and prepare materials.
• Maintain a safe, welcoming environment and keep the learning space ready for use.

Required profile

• Hands‑on experience working with autistic children who need high levels of support (non‑verbal or minimally verbal).
• Background in special education, shadow teaching, personal assistance or similar intervention work.
• Personal motivation or family experience with autism is a plus.
• Calm, grounded presence with the ability to co‑regulate.
• Comfortable communicating through movement, sound, behaviour or silence.
• Willingness to spend several hours each day with the same children.
• Native Portuguese or English speaker and comfortable using the other language.
