Distribution Planning Engineer (Remote – Puerto Rico)

About the role

We are a client‑focused engineering group that redesigns how electric utilities solve industry challenges. As a Distribution Planning Engineer you will work remotely from Puerto Rico, creating computer‑based models and performing power‑system studies for utility distribution and commercial/industrial networks.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and run steady‑state load flow, short‑circuit, motor‑starting, and power‑factor correction studies using tools such as CYME, Synergi, Windmil, ETAP, or SKM.
• Perform long‑ and short‑range distribution planning, reliability and resiliency analyses, and interconnection studies for new loads and generation.
• Participate in internal and external client meetings, presenting technical findings to decision‑makers.
• Recommend best‑practice solutions for standard and non‑standard scenarios and document engineering analyses following established methodologies.
• Identify emerging technologies and work practices that reduce operational costs or safety hazards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.
• At least 2 years of experience in distribution planning or utility operations.
• Self‑motivated, able to work independently without supervision, and strong communication skills.
• Proactive attitude toward learning new skills and improving processes.

Required skills

• Proficiency with power‑system modeling tools: CYME, Synergi, Windmil, ETAP, SKM.
• Experience in load flow, short‑circuit, motor‑starting, power‑factor correction, and DER impact analyses.
• Ability to conduct reliability, resiliency, and interconnection studies.
