Design & Commissioning Engineer – Data Center

About the role

We are seeking a Design & Commissioning Engineer to lead technical design studies for a new Tier II/III data centre in Lisbon. You will oversee the full design lifecycle—from preliminary concepts through detailed engineering to construction documentation—and ensure successful commissioning of critical infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and coordinate electrical designs covering MV/LV systems, LV switchboards, UPS architectures, rectifiers, generators, power distribution and monitoring.
• Design cooling solutions including CRAH, free cooling, direct liquid cooling, RDHx and chillers.
• Specify and integrate low‑current/ELV systems such as DCIM, SCADA, access control, fire detection and structured cabling.
• Produce engineering deliverables: calculation notes, power balances, single‑line diagrams and execution drawings.
• Create and execute commissioning procedures, write test scripts, conduct Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and validate performance and redundancy.
• Plan and manage equipment swap and migration scenarios in live, occupied environments to guarantee service continuity.

Required profile

• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Systems, Automation or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years experience on Tier II or Tier III data‑center projects in a design office, specialised firm, telecom operator or project‑management environment.
• Strong knowledge of high‑availability electrical architectures and critical equipment (UPS, rectifiers, ATS, generators, power distribution and monitoring).
• Good understanding of data‑center cooling technologies and DCIM/SCADA solutions.
• Proficiency with design and project‑management tools such as AutoCAD, ETAP, Caneco BT, Revit MEP, EPLAN and MS Project.
• Familiarity with Uptime Institute standards.
