Database Administrator (DBA)

About the role

Air Apps, a family-founded company building an AI-powered Personal & Entrepreneurial Resource Planner, is hiring a Database Administrator (DBA) for its Lisbon office. The DBA manages, optimizes and secures large-scale, complex databases and works with engineering teams to build high-performance, scalable and resilient database systems for the company's AI-driven platform. The position is fully onsite, and relocation support is available.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain high-performance database systems for large-scale applications.
• Optimize queries, indexing strategies and partitioning, and tune SQL and NoSQL databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, DynamoDB).
• Monitor database health, ensure high availability and scalability, and manage backup, replication and failover.
• Implement security policies, encryption and access control, and automate backups and failover.
• Work with developers on query optimization, schema design and data modeling, and perform capacity planning.
• Ensure compliance with data governance, GDPR and other regulatory requirements.

Required profile

• Around 4+ years of experience as a DBA or in a similar role.
• Experience with large, complex datasets and high-traffic applications.
• Ability to work with DevOps teams to integrate databases into CI/CD workflows.

Required skills

• Relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server) and/or NoSQL (MongoDB, Redis, Cassandra, DynamoDB).
• Performance tuning, query optimization and troubleshooting.
• Cloud database services (AWS RDS, Aurora, Google Cloud Spanner, Azure SQL).
• Scripting for automation (Python, Bash, SQL scripts).
