About the role

The Therapeutic Recreation Counselor will plan, direct, and implement activity‑based therapy programs for patients dealing with substance abuse. This role integrates therapeutic leisure activities into individualized treatment plans to promote mental and physical well‑being.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive activity assessments through observation and patient/family interviews.
• Develop, organize, and lead therapeutic leisure programs, including sports, dance, music, art, and relaxation techniques.
• Facilitate activity sessions that support treatment goals, improve social skills, and encourage independence.
• Adapt activities to meet the specific needs of diverse patient groups.
• Maintain a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude toward patients and address any concerns promptly.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreational Therapy, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
• Minimum three years of experience in recreation within a healthcare setting.
• Certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) or in the process of obtaining it, or equivalent professional licensure (e.g., LCPC, LPC) with expressive‑therapy certification.
• Current CPR, de‑escalation, restraint, and first‑aid certifications (training provided if needed).
