Component Engineer – Automotive Wire Harness

About the role

We are looking for a Component Engineer to join Yazaki’s Porto Technical Centre in Ovar. The role focuses on designing, developing, validating and continuously improving routing components for automotive wire‑harness systems, ensuring they meet customer requirements, functional performance, manufacturing feasibility and cost targets.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop routing components such as cable channels, grommets, clips, brackets, retainers and protectors using CAD software.
• Create detailed specifications, sketches and 3‑D models, and generate technical drawings for production.
• Select appropriate materials based on strength, weight, heat resistance, electrical conductivity and cost considerations.
• Set up prototypes, conduct tests, record results and recommend design or test‑method improvements.
• Collaborate with customers, product engineering, manufacturing engineering, suppliers and tooling teams throughout the product lifecycle.
• Ensure designs comply with packaging constraints, quality standards and cost objectives.

Required profile

• Engineering degree or equivalent technical background.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to perform mathematical calculations for component design.
• Experience working in an automotive or wire‑harness environment is a plus.
• Ability to work cross‑functionally and communicate technical information clearly.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CAD software for 3‑D modeling and drafting.
• Knowledge of material selection criteria for automotive applications.
• Experience in prototype development and testing.
• Ability to create detailed technical drawings and specifications.
