Community Recovery & Wellness VISTA Member

About the role

The Community Recovery & Wellness VISTA position strengthens the capacity of underserved neighborhoods in San Juan by building sustainable health and emergency‑preparedness systems. As an AmeriCorps VISTA member you will work directly with community partners to expand access to preventive health, wellness education, behavioral health resources and disaster response services for economically disadvantaged individuals and families.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and facilitate workshops on preventive health, wellness and disaster preparedness.
• Coordinate community health fairs and support planning of disaster response initiatives, including volunteer mobilization and distribution centers.
• Create and maintain community resource databases, partnership mapping tools and outreach materials.
• Develop evaluation tools and sustainability resources to ensure long‑term impact.
• Strengthen collaborations among local agencies, non‑profits and government entities.

Required profile

• College graduate (any discipline) with a strong interest in public health and community development.
• Minimum age 18.
• Ability to work full‑time for a one‑year term (09/08/2026 – 09/07/2027).
• Excellent communication and public speaking skills.

Required skills

• Knowledge of public health concepts and community wellness initiatives.
• Experience with disaster preparedness or emergency response planning.
• Ability to develop educational materials and conduct workshops.
• Familiarity with partnership building and resource coordination.
