About the role

We are looking for a Community Engineer to help shape and scale global open-source communities that underpin widely used Linux-based technologies. The role is fully remote and based in Portugal, and you will act as the bridge between external contributors and internal engineering, product and developer-relations teams.

• Improve contribution workflows, reduce friction and enable successful delivery of technical projects.
• Create high-quality written content such as blog posts, updates and documentation to communicate community progress.
• Engage with communities on forums, chat platforms, social channels and at events, representing the organization at conferences and meet-ups.
• Identify and drive improvements to community tooling, processes and contributor experience at scale.

Required profile

• Strong passion for open-source software and Linux ecosystems.
• Proven track record of public engagement with open-source projects (e.g., GitHub contributions, talks, blog posts).
• Excellent communication, writing and presentation skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Organizational and program-management abilities to lead cross-functional initiatives.

Required skills

• Linux operating systems (experience with Ubuntu or similar distributions preferred).
• Version control systems such as Git.
• CI/CD pipelines and related tooling.
• Packaging and container technologies.
• DevOps concepts and tools.
