Chief Tax Officer

About the role

The Chief Tax Officer leads all tax matters for BNP Paribas entities operating in Portugal, ensuring compliance with Portuguese legislation and Group tax policies. Reporting to the Group Tax Department in Paris, the role supports strategic decisions and represents the bank before tax authorities.

Key responsibilities

• Define and enforce the Group's tax compliance policy across 11 Portuguese entities.
• Interpret local tax legislation and international tax law to determine taxable income and review tax returns.
• Prepare documentation for the Tax Coordination Committee and support Group development projects.
• Implement transfer pricing principles, specify documentation requirements, and verify compliance.
• Advise on tax aspects of new products, transactions, and customer situations in line with GTD guidance.
• Adapt and apply permanent control and operational risk principles for tax functions.
• Represent the Group in tax audits, litigation, and before professional bodies, defending transfer pricing policies and requesting rulings.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in corporate tax, transfer pricing, and tax compliance within a large financial institution.
• Strong knowledge of Portuguese tax legislation and international tax frameworks.
• Proven ability to interact with tax authorities and professional bodies.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills, with a strategic mindset.
