Certified Senior Accountant – Santarém, Portugal

About the role

We are seeking a Certified Senior Accountant to join the Accounting & Finance team of a leading healthcare company in Santarém. The professional will own the full month‑end and year‑end close processes while ensuring compliance with Portuguese statutory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the complete month‑end and year‑end close cycle, including general ledger, accruals and trial balance.
• Maintain accounts payable and accounts receivable ledgers.
• Coordinate payroll processing with an external provider.
• Prepare and submit all Portuguese statutory filings (SAF‑T, IES, VAT returns, Modelo 22, statutory accounts under SNC).
• Act as the primary finance contact for year‑end audit.
• Serve as functional ERP owner – chart of accounts, period controls, financial module configuration.
• Approve supplier payment runs.
• Support the CFO with tax advisor coordination and regulatory queries.

Required profile

• Academic degree in Accounting or a related field.
• Minimum 4 years of accounting experience in Portugal.
• Certified Accountant (eliminatory).
• Fluent in Portuguese and English.
• Organised, detail‑oriented and able to meet tight month‑end deadlines.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of SNC (Portuguese accounting standards).
• Experience with Portuguese VAT, SAF‑T and IES requirements.
• Familiarity with ERP systems; Sage experience is a plus.
