Certified Accountant – Senior Role in Healthcare

About the role

We are seeking a Certified Senior Accountant to join the Accounting & Finance team of a leading healthcare company in Santarém. The professional will own the full month‑end and year‑end close cycle, ensure statutory compliance, and act as the primary finance contact for audits.

Key responsibilities

• Manage month‑end and year‑end close, including general ledger, accruals and trial balance.
• Maintain accounts payable and receivable ledgers.
• Coordinate payroll processing with an external provider.
• Prepare and submit Portuguese statutory filings such as SAF‑T, IES, VAT returns, Modelo 22 and statutory accounts under SNC.
• Serve as the main finance liaison for year‑end audit.
• Own ERP configuration for chart of accounts, period controls and financial modules.
• Approve supplier payment runs.
• Support the CFO with tax advisor coordination and regulatory queries.

Required profile

• Academic degree in Accounting or a related field.
• Minimum 4 years of accounting experience in Portugal.
• Certified Accountant (mandatory).
• Fluent in Portuguese and English.
• Organised, detail‑oriented and able to meet tight month‑end deadlines.
• Comfortable working in a small, fast‑moving team and taking end‑to‑end ownership.

Required skills

• SNC (Portuguese accounting standards).
• Portuguese VAT regulations.
• SAF‑T filing.
• IES reporting.
• Experience with ERP systems (Sage is a plus).
