Systems Engineer – Linux & Yocto

About the role

We are looking for a Systems Engineer to join HPE’s next‑generation Network Operating System team. The role focuses on Linux kernel, OS infrastructure and user‑space software across x86 and ARM platforms, with a strong emphasis on performance, reliability and security.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Linux kernel, platform and infrastructure components.
• Debug and resolve complex bugs, security vulnerabilities and integration issues across the software stack.
• Build and maintain Yocto‑based Linux distributions, including layer and recipe creation, packaging and backporting.
• Enable new hardware platforms, support BSP development and assist with hardware bring‑up.
• Improve system performance, automation, testing frameworks and developer productivity.
• Collaborate with hardware, platform and software teams to deliver production‑ready solutions.

Required profile

• Strong low‑level systems programming experience in C/C++.
• Deep knowledge of Linux kernel internals, OS fundamentals, data structures and algorithms.
• Proven experience debugging kernel and user‑space components.
• Hands‑on expertise with the Yocto Project, including layer management and recipe development.
• Familiarity with x86 and ARM architectures, BSP development and hardware bring‑up.
• Solid understanding of compiler optimizations, memory models and undefined behaviour.
