Senior Associate – State & Local Tax (SALT) – Asset Management

About the role

KPMG is seeking a Senior Associate to join its State and Local Tax (SALT) practice, focusing on asset‑management clients such as hedge funds, private equity and real‑estate firms. The role offers the opportunity to work on complex multi‑state tax matters while collaborating with a diverse team of specialists.

Key responsibilities

• Assist multi‑state alternative investment firms with compliance, planning and controversy matters.
• Prepare clients for auditor discussions, represent them at hearings and appeals, and draft protest letters.
• Review and manage information for state income tax returns throughout the preparation cycle.
• Build and maintain client relationships; supervise, mentor and develop junior staff.
• Research and draft technical memoranda on income, franchise, and sales‑and‑use tax issues.

Required profile

• Minimum two years of experience performing tax research and preparing state income tax returns for pass‑through and corporate entities.
• Bachelor’s degree; JD, LL.M. in Taxation, or Master’s in Taxation is a plus.
• Experience serving pass‑through entities and solid knowledge of state tax concepts.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a high‑energy, collaborative team environment.
