Head of Data Science & AI

About the role

Marley Spoon is looking for a Head of Data Science & AI to lead the strategy and roadmap for data‑driven products across its six‑country footprint. Based in Lisbon with a hybrid work model, you will steer a multidisciplinary team to turn complex business problems into scalable, production‑ready AI solutions that enhance customer experience and operational efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the global Data Science, Machine Learning and AI strategy for all brands and markets.
• Lead, mentor and grow a team of Data Scientists and ML Engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
• Translate business challenges into reliable, production‑grade models for personalization, demand forecasting, waste reduction, marketing measurement and customer retention.
• Ensure models are responsible, governed and aligned with measurable business outcomes.
• Collaborate with product, engineering and analytics teams in an Agile, cross‑functional setting.

Required profile

• 8+ years of experience in Data Science, with at least 3 years in people‑management roles.
• Proven track record delivering production ML systems that drive measurable business impact.
• Strong business judgment and ability to communicate technical concepts to senior and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Experience with responsible AI practices, model governance and emerging technologies such as large language models.

Required skills

• Python and SQL programming.
• Machine learning frameworks: scikit‑learn, XGBoost, PyTorch.
• Production MLOps and orchestration platforms.
• Modern data & analytics tools: Snowflake, Looker (or equivalents).
• Experimentation techniques: A/B testing, multivariate testing.
• Domain expertise in NLP, time‑series forecasting and recommender systems.
