Senior Accountant – Healthcare Finance (Santarém)

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Accountant to join the Accounting & Finance team of a leading healthcare company in Santarém. You will own the full month‑end and year‑end close processes, ensure statutory compliance, and act as a key liaison for audits and tax matters.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the complete month‑end and year‑end close cycle, including general ledger, accruals and trial balance.
• Maintain accounts payable and accounts receivable ledgers.
• Coordinate payroll processing with an external provider.
• Prepare and submit Portuguese statutory filings: SAF‑T, IES, VAT returns, Modelo 22 and statutory accounts under SNC.
• Serve as the primary finance contact for year‑end audit activities.
• Own ERP configuration for the chart of accounts, period controls and financial modules.
• Approve supplier payment runs.
• Support the CFO with tax advisor coordination and regulatory queries.

Required profile

• Academic degree in Accounting or a related field.
• Minimum 4 years of accounting experience in Portugal.
• Strong knowledge of SNC, Portuguese VAT, SAF‑T and IES requirements.
• Experience with ERP systems; familiarity with Sage is a plus.
• Fluent in Portuguese and English.
• Organised, detail‑oriented and able to meet tight month‑end deadlines.
• Comfortable working in a small, fast‑moving team and owning end‑to‑end processes.
