About the role
The Director, Business Development will lead Mastercard's portfolio of financial institutions, fintechs and platform partners in the payments sector. Reporting to the Portuguese Country Manager, the role focuses on solution design, digital development, business case creation and customer negotiations across Western Europe.
Key responsibilities
- Define and execute market strategy, set goals and manage the account P&L in collaboration with the Western Europe team.
- Lead solution design, sales initiatives and product delivery in a competitive environment.
- Support country‑wide go‑to‑market initiatives, including product positioning and target customer identification.
- Build and maintain trusted client relationships, oversee business development pipelines and coordinate internal stakeholders.
- Collaborate with technical solution architects and product managers to align roadmaps with market needs.
- Manage partnership pipelines, anticipate technology trends and address ecosystem stakeholder requirements.
- Develop business cases, operational processes and product roadmaps for emerging concepts.
- Summarise market findings, manage program constructs and enable scaling of successful solutions.
Required profile
- Proven experience in fast‑paced, technology‑driven environments such as payments, e‑commerce, retail, financial services or consulting.
- Customer‑focused, results‑oriented mindset with a track record of meeting business development targets.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a matrix organization.
- Demonstrated ability to build sustainable business relationships across diverse contexts.
Required skills
- Experience in solution design and digital product development.
- Ability to create and present business cases and operational processes.
- Knowledge of payments ecosystems and fintech partnerships.
