Project Director – 1GW Data Centre Campus

About the role

We are seeking a senior Project Director to lead the delivery of a landmark 1GW hyperscale data centre campus in Sines, Portugal. You will be the most senior construction leader on site, accountable for programme, cost, quality and safety from ground‑up works through phased handover.

Key responsibilities

• Own end‑to‑end delivery of the campus across all construction phases, protecting critical‑path milestones.
• Lead a multidisciplinary on‑site team including construction managers, package managers, HSE, commissioning and project controls.
• Manage procurement and performance of main contractors, design consultants and specialist subcontractors.
• Control the project budget, including cost forecasting, value engineering and financial reporting.
• Act as primary interface between the construction programme and executive leadership, providing clear progress, risk and spend updates.
• Build and maintain relationships with Portuguese authorities, local government and utilities providers.
• Ensure compliance with Portuguese and EU regulations, planning conditions and internal standards.
• Champion a best‑in‑class safety culture across all parties on site.

Required profile

• Proven track record as a Project Director or Senior Project Manager on large‑scale hyperscale or colocation data centre construction.
• Experience managing projects with capital values of €500 m+.
• Strong commercial acumen and experience owning major project budgets.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills with executive stakeholders, contractors and public authorities.
• Experience in Portugal or Southern Europe is advantageous; Portuguese language skills a bonus.
